Of the preliminary results of local elections in Medvedja, Albanian parties have suffered a deep decline in the number of municipal advisers.
Out of a total of 6602 votes, Albanian parties have secured 668 votes, or about 10 per cent from the voting body. The coalition “all for Medvedja” led by Muharrem Salihu has won 392 votes, or 9.19%, while the Party for Democratic Action (PVD) has won 278, or 6.51%. The largest number of votes has won Aleksandar Vuciq's SNS party, as well as 2764 or 61.89%, while three smaller parties have secured about 18%. But the united Serbian opposition has boycotted this election. In these elections of a total of 6,602 by rights, 4,266 voters have voted.
Many Albanians, though from Kosovo and some of the diaspora had gone to vote, have returned unable to exploit this right, after being cleared of the voter lists, with the current government plan in Serbia as soon as it reaches the addresses of Albanian families. But even a large number of locals have not been able to vote, as they were not on voter lists. Muharrem Salihu, as the bearer of the Albanian coalition, said it has been a serious political battle and that there will be much work to do in the political plan. He warned that he would expand his positions regarding the election process and its political journey to Medvedja. This coalition will for the first time be politically engaged in the Medvedja municipality.
Previously on the Municipal Council of Medvedja, Albanians have had 8 advisers.
