The Tirana municipality has set up a memorial monument at Lake Park, in honour of 251 Turkish citizens killed during the failed coup of the July 2016 state. Also, with the support of the Turkish government, the municipality has planted 251 strains brought by Turkey, and it has given the name “to witnesses of July 15th”.
The memorial contains the names of 251 citizens killed in defence of President Erdogan's government, during the coup attempt three years ago in Turkey.
Albania is the first and only country in the world to memorialise victims of Turkey's failed coup. And there is no similar memorial in our country.
It is not clear when, on the basis of which municipal motivation and procedures has established the establishment of the memorial.
The announcement of the inauguration of the road, park and memorial has not appeared on any of Tirana's pages, featuring any activity of its own and municipal directors. Turkey's Ambassador Murat Ahmet Yoruk has taken part in the inauguration ceremony, Tirana Deputy Mayor Arbian Maznik.
Prior to the inauguration, Turkey's Embassy also organised the “Marriage of the Victory of Democracy”, from the Square “Teresa “to the park that Tirana City Hall has established in honour of victims from coup organisers.
President Erdogan's government accuses imam Fetãollen of organising the coup. Gylene, who has been living in the United States since 1999, flatly denies the accusations.
Turkey has declared the Gylen “Movement” a terrorist organisation. Hundreds of thousands of people suspected as members have faced arrests, imprisonment, trials and suspicious sentences, dismissals, etc. Hundreds of journalists have been imprisoned without trial, as they are considered their writings before the coup have supported the Gylen Movement.
President Erdogan has been a staunch supporter of the event in the area of the Gylen Movement education. Both sides have strongly backed each other's strengths until the cracks between them led to a clash, where President Erdogan's authoritarianism seemed to prevail. Virtually, the Gylen Movement no longer exists in Turkey.
This park was inaugurated just three days before Prime Minister Edi Rama's visit to President Erdogan's holiday house. Upon returning from Turkey, Rama announced that in September Air Albania will launch flights to Italy. So far, Air Albania has used a Turkish Airlines aircraft, painted with the Albanian flag.
A few days later, Turkish Interior Minister Sylejman Soyllu visited Tirana. After meetings with Minister Llesaj and Prime Minister Rama, he said the parties had received <x0 serious decisions” regarding the Gylen Movement in Albania.
Like the Tirana City Hall, which did not inform the public of the inauguration of this park at Lake Tirana, neither has the government provided any clarification of what decisions have been made.
The crackdown by the Turkish government, Turkey and abroad, has been criticised by several European countries and organisations in defence of human rights.
After the failed coup of the state, the government declared martyrs to citizens killed in the clash with police segments of the army. Parks and memorials have been set up throughout Turkey, commemorating July 15, 2016, and the names of the victims.
This is the first case in the world, where Turkey raises a memorial with the names of citizens killed during the coup attempt in a foreign country. Also, this is the first case that the memorial of victims of a foreign country coup is established in Albania.
