Economy Minister Kreshnik Bektesh and Agriculture Minister Trajan Dimkovski, together with the directors of the Food and Customs Agency, co-ordinated for the situation with Kosovo following the ban on honey and potato imports.
There are no details of what is being discussed and what Economy Minister Kreshnik Bektash will deal with tomorrow at his meeting with counterpart Edri Shala in Pristina. Macedonian products meet world standards and there is no reason Kosovo authorities stop, says Food and Veterinary Director.
Macedonia's “Products meet world standards, the highest standards required by the European Union, potatoes will also soon take over a month or two to receive export permits to the European Union, and we will ask Kosovo authorities during tomorrow's day of arguments on which international standards apply this ban, said Zoran Atanasov, director of the Food and Veterinary Agency.
The chairman of the Economic Oda, Branko Azeski, has reacted, sharing the same opinion as Safet Gerjaliu the former chairman of the Kosovo Economic Ode. According to him, the stop from the Kosovo side is populist, at the wrong time.
The trade contract with Pristina began when northern Macedonia banned import of fish and fugitives with the reasoning that the Kosovo Food Agency is not accredited according to European standards. Later, Kosovo reacted by setting a deadlock for import of potatoes and honey. The latest statistics entity data shows that this year in contrast to last year, exports have increased by 38.6%. In Kosovo a year, 1,000 tonnes of potatoes are exported, while Honey export amounts to about 400,000 euros a year.
