Kosovar farmers have an address where they can control food products. At the Kosovo Agricultural Institute in Pec, which operates within the framework of the Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Rural Development conducts land tests, but also viruses for plant crops.
The institute's five labs are diagnosed with viruses that affect agricultural culture disease.
Kosovo Agricultural Institute Director Fehmi Geci shows that this institution has great weight in the agriculture sector because of identifying problems Kosovar farmers may have with their crops.
Tests are performed on many subjects in this country. Tests are conducted mainly in fields and labs. Interest parties are farmers, agricultural products consumers and responsible institutions caring for food quality”, Geci says.
But disturbing remains the degradation of agricultural lands on the entire territory of Kosovo. And their destruction is being done in several ways.
Many farmers unconsciously burn amulorates, which damage the earth after destroying its living part. The Republic of Kosovo does not fare well with regard to land storage”, Geci says.
Land degradation is being done by several other factors.
Director of the Kosovo Agricultural Institute Fehmi Geci says that degradation also results from excessive use of chemical waste, as a result of the non-referring of organic matter and the regular failure of agricultural land.
Another highly important project in this Institute is the experimental greenhouse, which was inaugurated last year.
This preserves the genetic basis of autochthon varieties such as the following culture, apple, and other varieties.
From this place then the seedlings switch to the village of Vitomirica.
Arton Beckoll, who heads the Directorate for Agricultural Production, indicates that the seeds of imported agricultural cultures are also tested here.
“Pages of imported agricultural cultures are tested so that they can later be placed on the list allowed for use by farmers”, Beckoll says.
The Kosovo Agricultural Institute functions within the Ministry of Agriculture and consistently provides technical and scientific support to the MBPZHR technical departments.
IBK controls the quality of agricultural inputs, food and conservation of living environments are also conducted in research into varieties of agricultural cultures such as wheat, barley, corn and potatoes in Kosovo's agroecological conditions.
But the priority also has the identification of harmful biological agents, such as pests, pathogens, bad bars, and others.
