US: Follow Kosovo's example of restoring members of I SISU of Syria

American counterterrorism co-ordinator Ambassador Nathan A. Tales, says Kosovo is one of the first countries in the repatriation of its citizens, who have fought for the ISIS. At a press conference, held Thursday (01.08) at the State Department, Ambassador Tales said: “As regards the repatriation and trial of foreign fighters we have had some successes and want them added. Countries like Kazakhstan and Kosovo have been able to repatriate dozens, and in some cases hundreds of their warriors and family members, have condemned those who committed crimes and have sent children and family members to rehabilitation centres who participate in deraditionalisation and integration programmes”, the DW reports.
Citing Italy, which has recently said it will restore a foreign fighter who will be tried for criminal work, Ambassador Tales demanded that more Western countries do the same.
Each country is forced to solve the problem of its own citizens, who have gone to fight for the ISIS. No country should expect the US or SDF, Syrian democratic forces, to solve this problem for them. This is a problem dealing with the place where these foreign fighters were radicalised before,”, Tales said.
I SIS spread throughout the world
He stressed that so-called I SIS Califat has been destroyed, but other types of ISIS continue to be alive all over the world. He cited Africa and Southeast Asia as examples of dangers, such as Nigeria, Egypt, and Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
The Tales press conference was held together with Ambassador James Jeffrey, the special envoy for the world coalition against I SIS, who spoke of the results of the fight against I SIS in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, War Against I SIS has succeeded, but in different parts of the country I The SIS is still active. Even in Iraq there are terrorist groups associated with ISIS.
The release of several areas of Syria has produced a large number of foreign fighters and terrorists held in camps. 70 thousand people are held at alHawl. Sixty thousand of them are Syrians and Iraqis, and 10,000 are from third countries and have joined 2,000 foreign terrorists. There is a radicalization problem there. We want to get these people out of there and bring them back to their communities”, Ambassador Jeffrey said.
The US has repatriated five adults, four men and one woman, who have been charged with acts of crime related to terrorism and ISIS support. One person has been convicted. Other processes are not complete.
