Situated before a situation where executive leader Ramush Haradinaj has resigned, Kosovo urgently needs to go to the polls. So states Social Democrat Party Chairman Shpend Ahmeti. For him, the most merciful would be a pre-election coalition of the left bloc.
The criticism addresses the Democratic Party of Kosovo, while saying red lines have been placed solely on this political subject, does not rule out the possibility of a coalition even with Vetevendosje -- once part of it.
In an interview for KosovoPress, first of The PSD, it views elections as the only alternative to exit the situation in which Kosovo is located.
Because he does not believe in another ruling formula, Ahmeti says the PSD is preparing for elections.
A political subject should always be ready for elections. And this last case of Prime Minister Haradinaj's resignation shows why the parties must always be prepared. Because not everything depends on the party, so there are always external factors that can lead the country to elections. So, we've been ready, but now we have to mobilize even more and start our preparations for the elections, because we don't think there's gonna be another ruling formula. Therefore, we are getting ready”, Ahmeti says.
He doesn't prefer to talk much about pre-election coalitions, but still doesn't rule out such an option.
According to him, until the election date is set, they should consider competing alone.
We'll have to think about it ourselves. We can never be based on pre-election coalitions. This does not mean that we will not, but we once mobilise our structures to be ready for elections and start discussions with other subjects, especially after that Constitutional Court decision that only the winning coalition has the right to propose the Speaker of the Parliament. But it remains to be seen these days after the election date is clear to start discussing”, he says.
Ahmeti does not rule out the possibility of a coalition with the Vetevendosje Movement.
I never rule out (VV coalition). I think when you ask if it's possible, I don't know in these political circumstances. But would we, of course, consider it”, he says.
As for a coalition with the AAK, which they helped when they gave it votes for the budget, Ahmeti says they have not had any discussion so far. As it shows you prefer a coalition left.
Even so, Ahmeti sees little likelihood that such a coalition will happen, while it does not give the candidate name that he would like to have this leftist coalition.
The “for me would be the most desirable coalition of the left bloc. However, we are Social Democrats, the Initiative is Social Democrats and also Vetevendosje is subject to the left. So if we were to see political development, it would probably be more desirable. But because of circumstances, we need to look at discussions and other opportunities. For us, there are six program points that we've introduced as highly important to the governing programme and to the future government. They will be our conditions to discuss any coalition”, Ahmeti says.
He reiterates that PSD has put red lines only for PDK.
“We consider him responsible for the situation we have today the Democratic Party of Kosovo and it would be good, I said and I keep saying, even for The PDK also for Kosovo, for the PDK to switch to opposition”, he estimates.
Commenting on President Hashim Thaci's delay, to invite political subjects in the country to consultations, Ahmeti stresses he sees no reason to delay meeting with political subjects.
I don't know what we're waiting for. It is not good for Kosovo because we have work to accomplish. It's the obligations we have on the international level, and it would be good to have the <x1 elections as soon as possible, he says.
Otherwise, President Hashim Thaci has met KDTP and VAKAT representatives from the 6+ parliamentary group, Minister Mahir Jagcilar and deputies Duda Balje and Bahrim Sabani. While, today, Wednesday, she met with CEC chairman Valdete Daka, where they discussed constitutional deadlines if elections are held. After the meeting, aka has declared they have not talked about any specific date.
