This is Enver Hoxha's doctor: I didn't care about the dictator.

I have no conscience that I've cured Enver Hoxha. I've cured the dictator, not the dictatorship”, was expressed last night on the “Debat” show at “Channel One”, the dictator's personal physician, Isuf Kalo. For more than two hours, he has responded to TV questions “Channel One”, for three decades of his work, originally as a special clinic doctor and then as a personal physician of Enver Hoxha. Kalo refuses to call it “monstra” Block residents. “They're like us, but with different luck”, says Kal.

He also speaks of the figure of Mehmet Shehu, who, according to him, had Angloxon culture. He is convinced that the former prime minister killed himself as a negotiation to protect the family. As for Nexmije Hoxha, she views her husband as a devoted and dignified wife.

What were the people of the Block, criminals, or heroes?

They were like us. I didn't see anyone with extraordinary gifts, but with different lucks. There were some who were none, and became one, and those who were one, who fell into the abyss. The involvement in this governing group was, not a matter of merit, intelligence, performance, but of choice based on the criteria of faithfulness and loyalty. It's a mistake to define it as a monster, that it would be called a genetic accident and it's born and the assumption that it happened once and cannot happen again. They were polite, educated, even for the facade, adapting to Communist morality.

Enver Hoxha was a dictator, do you have any sorrow that lasted the life of the dictator and the dictatorship?

I didn't compete to be Enver Hoxha's doctor. I was appointed, I received a public assignment, which I called luck. I've treated Enver Hoxha not as an extraordinary man, but as a patient. The doctor doesn't have a good patient and a bad one. I have no conscience. Then I was proud.

- From the book I feel like you're having a conscious breakdown...

That Enver was the dictator and our dictatorial regime, that was known, but I did not treat the dictatorship, but the dictator. He could be anyone. We doctors don't have ideological feelings when we treat someone. If it wasn't for Enver, it would be another one, because the system was like that. There were men in the family.

- Were you emotional when you visited him?

The first experience was very embarrassing. I was like on trial. He had accepted me without trying. He believed Hysani, and I wanted to succeed. His concern seemed not important, but I thought it could be even more dangerous, since heart disorders could cause a digestive tube disorder. It was 3:00 in the night. I asked him to visit him, and he agreed. I suspected that it could be a lyre of the heart. He had all the promises: he was obez, 65 years old with diabetes, he smoked a lot, a secularist. I asked him to do an electrocardiogram. The nejmija was offended because she was always told that your heart is a ball. When you're in a state of silence, it didn't exist, so I asked.

- You beat yourself up the next day?

I cursed myself. Because I didn't know what way you'd go. They had to be monitored. Doctor not even tools. We were well - equipped, and Najmija didn't want to make a noise, alarm not to call other doctors. It was frightening to take on such responsibility. Fortunately, Sulo approached me and called two doctors. It warmed my heart that I was not alone. The next day he started his watch.

You've served them, and in many cases you're the man you've brought back to life.

Not just me, but fellow workers who were more specialized.

Sokoli's wife, Liliani, has accused you of poisoning Enver Hoxha.

This is a painful story for me. It's a closed story, apparently happening on these levels. It's unperceptive that the Necmija, who was sacrificed all her life, Sulua, who was a personal guard or I, to take such an action.

In a class of lessons, a naive student asks how is it possible that there were no assassinations or attempts to kill Enver Hoxha?

That's a question people should ask themselves. I don't know that Enver Hoxha was attempted murder.

- Were there doubles?

I don't think she needed it. In my assessment, Enver did not give any importance to his preservation, he had confidence in himself. He didn't wear bulletproof vest, he walked into people. We who were close to him were not checked. It was based on the faith and characteristics of the man recruited.

The second picture you've discussed in the book is Mehmet Shehu. You've shown too much detail. For 27 years, Prime Minister has become subject to a macabre crime...

After Salin's death, the need arose for the first secretaries to change. At the time, Enver had many functions, so he was told to leave some duties and did Mehmet the prime minister, and from this moment he became person number two, even Enver allowed him to come after his photo of Mehmet. A virtue of power that had never been seen before. I was not his doctor, but I visited both him and his mother, Sultan and Fiquiret. It was an interesting figure, but it was unreserved, very original, not trying to disguise. It was spontaneous, fighting, agreeing... It was very different from how he thought. He had Angloxon culture, cut short. The question I've always had is why was Mehmet so fascinated by Enver and ignored by others, made chicken in front of him? It was his charm. Enver radiated authority.

- Have you met Silva Turdi?

No. We did not attend family events or weddings. There were no loud weddings in Block, only relatives and friends.

- You call suicide, but in my opinion it's wrong, there's evidence of that...

I'm not an investigative doctor and I'm not responsible. I've talked to Fatos Harito several times and he told me 200% suicide. Fatos Harito had no interest. If the letter expert that Mehmet left proved to be his, the killer didn't write that. That shuts it all down. Suicide was one of the last options to minimize punishment. Suicide wasn't fear, it was a negotiation act: I'm leaving and I have these requests. He was a very rational man. Mehmet killed himself that night when his process had not ended. If they knew the facts, we would not discuss them today.

Mehmet's brother, Duran Shehu is convinced it was murder.

I don't do it in murder or suicide. It's elimination. In addition to life, they wanted to remove him from history. Mehmet's fate was decided that on the first 15 days of September, after 5 meetings with Enver and Nexmiye, who asked him to condemn his son and say he did not know anything about engagement to calm public opinion. He refused. This is where the process of elimination began. Mehmeti was transferred and I was told to deal with Ramiz rather than Mehmet. The murder did not serve to Eve for making history later. He thought of the slow elimination. That's what he wanted to do with Kadri. But Mehmet broke this scheme with suicide and one day it would end badly. Logic suggests that his best choice for him was suicide if his letter was considered. And I don't know why Enver didn't disguise it as in other high-powered suicide cases, which he's been told about as if the gun was blown off, drowned, got sick...

- You've been keeping in touch with Nexmije Hoxha later?

Nexmije Hoxha has been very principled about the attacks and the slanders that arose against me, as if I had poisoned Enver Hoxha. He did not join this choir and confirmed that the medical service was performed in the best possible way. I thanked him for helping us as medical staff. Nexmije Hoxha has been one of the most devoted women I have ever known for healthcare to her husband.

-Do you agree with Mr. Berisha's agreement that today those who had Communist fathers have power?

I didn't quote this. This is the first picture when he just became the PD. This is in the PD office, on Kavaja Street.

- You've had a bit of tangent Berisha for that doctor's job.

The story was connected to the first impact Hysni Kapo had. It was a situation that became sick and had a heart disorder, and Hakki Toska, while in Vlora, escaped from Anesti Condil, a professor. Two four cardiologists went to Vlora while Hyshua suffered, and Enver left a message to establish a group to follow Hysun. Dr. Shyti here, Dr. Sam Cocay, Camber, who were on our guard team. Then the need arose for doctors, and they entered the Block service at that time but not as the permanent staff of the Block. It must have been '78. I proposed Berisha. Berisha was taken as part of the group. Berisha stayed with the group as soon as he passed that phase. Then he broke up because he was a professor, but kept in touch.

How does Nexhamie Hoxha make a very serious and untested accusation saying of Mr. Berisha in a text interview: “On the list Hysni Kapo sent me was also Sali Berisha. For each one there were rows of biographical records. When I read that Sali Berisha had the Serbian mother-in-law, the former Partisan, but with the UDB I immediately said: Far from associating with Serbs and much more with UDB.”

Nizemija has now spoken her opinion, but this is not part of my book. I said I wanted Saliu to be there and not approved. Why didn't you approve, I didn't do this. I myself haven't stopped treating you like my friend and having relations no matter what was meant for him. Saliu was a party member at the time, was a distinguished doctor, that was important, but he was not a communist.

- Why don't you, Berisha and Enver Hoxha kids put it in the book?

Because it's been misused. This is an intimate moment in Voloreka, in Pogradec, and it's probably been my or other's birthday. We are friends, mostly Sali and his wife, Sokoli and his wife, is Valdete Sala, my wife is there.
