In a State Police statement, it is suggested that Russian national, 34 years old, identified with the R.M. initials, is accused of participating as a fighter in militant Islamic State groups against Syrian Government Forces.
According to the State Police statement, Russian national R. M., born and resident of the industrial town of Norilsk in Russia, the city in the world closer to the Arctic Art Ray ʹ had entered Albania from the border of Kakavija, in Gjirokastra, with a group of asylum seekers coming from Greece.
“Russian State, 34 years old, has left Russia for Syria in June 2013 and has joined an illegal armed group, the so-called Islamic State (ISIS), being active participants in fighting against government forces in Syria”, the State Police statement notes.
Co-operation of the Anti-Terrus Directorate with EUROOPOL
State police suggest Russian national R.M. entered Albania in October 2018 without any identification documents. He refused to communicate with border police authorities and be interviewed by them. The multiple wounds, caused by firearms that were contacted in his body during routine medical examination of Albanian authorities along with his silence, raised doubts that the person coming from Greece, with the group of asylum seekers, could be a dangerous person.
The Police's statement suggests that “The Antiterrorism Directorate and the Prosecutor's Prosecutor for War crimes urgently transferred him to Tirana, to one of the host centres of asylum seekers, and requested the help of EUROPOL to identify him by sending his fingerprints and DNA.
For about 10 months, the Anti-Terrori Directorate communicated with EUROPOL until the Russian citizen with the initials R.M. was identified as wanted by INTERPOL in Moscow as an active fighter with the illegal, armed Islamic State group.
The Office of EUROPOL Liaison Officer, the first such office in the Western Balkans, opened in Tirana this week. Its opening is seen as a more opportunity to deepen Albania's co-operation with the EU in fighting international terrorism, organised crime and illegal migration.
