The minority leader in the American Senate, Chuck Schumer, asked to investigate the FaceApp app, which changes the photos of users, making them look older or younger.
In a letter posted on Twitter, Schumer said it was “that the personal data of American citizens could go to “a hostile foreign power”.
The company that created the app, which can be downloaded on smart phones, is based in St Petersburg, Russia.
Wireless Lab, however, said he didn't forever store the photos and that he didn't collect the data.
Most of the photographs are hidden from the company's servers within 48 hours of the download date, Wireless Lab company said through a statement.
Schumer, however, demanded that the FBI and the Federal Trade Commission investigate the FaceApp app.
I have serious concerns about protecting collected data, as well as whether users are aware of who can access it”, says his letter.
