Local media have quoted police as saying a man had broken into Kyotto Animation Co's studios on Thursday morning. Police say the suspect, 41, had distributed gas to set him on fire afterwards.
Some people still remain uncounted according to the NHK, translate Periscopi.
The suspect was arrested and immediately taken to the hospital for his injuries.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said the incident was “heavy on words” and expressed condolences to those who had suffered.
It is learned that the police had also found knives at the scene.
It's not clear what the suspect might have had with the company in question.
Some 70 people were in the building when the fire broke out and there was fear for even more victims. /Periscope
