President Donald Trump said the United States will send 1,000 more troops to Poland.
He talked about sending additional troops during a press conference to the White House with Polish President Andreze Duda. Before the two presidents started commenting, an F-35 plane flew over the White House to highlight Poland's plan to buy aircraft of this kind.
President Trump already announced an expansion of the security and economic alliance with Poland.
He said the Polish government will pay for infrastructure supporting additional troops. He also commended Poland for increasing defence spending for meeting its NATO commitments.
President Trump said the two countries have agreed to increase the sale of liquid natural gas in Poland to demonstrate growing economic co-operation between the two countries.
Mr. Trump said earlier that there will be no increase of American troops in Europe, but they will be circulated from other countries.
He also said he was reviewing sanctions on Russia's Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, and warned Germany not to depend on Russia for energy.
Nord Stream 2 has divided the European Union. Eastern, Nordic and Baltic European countries view the 1,225km pipeline under construction as increasing EU support for Moscow, while those in northern Europe, particularly Germany, see economic benefits in the project.
President Trump said he is seriously considering a return visit to Poland this fall.
He said he has “very seriously” the opportunity to visit Poland again and thinks to do so “diku in September”.
September will mark the 80th anniversary of the beginning of World War II, when Nazi Germany and then the Soviet Union invaded Poland.
President Trump recently visited Poland in July 2017, when he gave a speech in which he vowed to face the new “forms of aggression” that had the West targeted. During his visit, he received an enthusiastic reception from a crowd of thousands who called on his name.
