A man in the same boat as the drowning woman could swim and later threw two fireworks out of another boat to get help.
The man told the police that the woman was passing through Geneva and that the storm had taken them by surprise. Police and emergency services went rapidly to the scene. Later, divers pulled the woman's body out of the lake.
The victim, whose ethnic affiliation remains unknown, was taken to the hospital in Geneva, where doctors recorded her death.
The storm also caused material damage in the French region of Houte-Savoie, where a 51-year-old German tourist was killed after being hit by a fallen tree.
Major rain clouds and powerful winds damaged many boats that were taking part in a race, but no one got hurt.
According to the National Institute of meteorology, Switzerland has been hit by winds at speeds of up to 110 km per hour, writes the Guardian”.
