The head of state stressed that it fully shares Secretary Stoltenberg's vision that it is the duty and responsibility of each ally to strengthen the Organisation by investing every effort and contribution to collective defence service and at the same time each member state.
In this context, the president will continue to support and encourage increased defence budgets to 2% within 2024, not only as obligation but also as responsibility for burden sharing.
President Meta praised NATO's investment in Kucova Air Base as an asset to the security of the country, the region and the Alliance.
The head of state stressed that Albania is enthusiastically awaiting the close membership of northern Macedonia in NATO.
It was the right decision at the right time, which rewarded the resolution of bilateral disputes thanks to the constructive engagement of the highest leaders of Northern Macedonia and Greece, as well as irreplaceable co-operation between the United States and the EU.
President Meta noted the extraordinary and vital role in supporting this strategic goal by the Albanians of Northern Macedonia.
The head of state stressed that NATO's enlargement and presence in our region are key to the consolidation of security, peace and stability of the Western Balkans.
The NATO presence in Kosovo, in close co-operation with Kosovo institutions and the EU, contributes to a safer environment on the ground, and is simultaneously essential to Kosovo's territorial integrity and stability in the region”, President Meta said.
Furthermore, the head of state said that Albania supports Kosovo's legitimate and sovereign right to a gradual transition of KSF into the multiethnic military, and in full interaction with NATO.
“European and Euro-Atlantic integration make up the only reliable guarantees for consolidating peace, security and prosperity in the region, based on common values, and progress in these organisations is worth any sacrifice and hard work”, President Meta stressed.
