KEK hits record in coal production for thermal power plants

Despite the many problems and challenges that came up with the expropriation of properties in Shiplolle, the Kosovo Energy Corporation coal production division has reached record production and supply of the first power plant Kosova A and Kosova B, enabling regular power supply from these two thermal power plants. Executive Director of KEK Coal Production Division Hanef Hajdini has said that. “Vlen points out that this year the coal production division has reached records of coal production, where it has managed to produce over 40 thousand tons of coal and the removal of the wasteland in April, approximately 6,000 cubic metres [60 m] of desert. Despite the equipment that we're looking forward to, with the commitment of management, staff and workers, which we have with the number of 2,500 workers, we've managed not only to supply the electrons and not to risk the coal supply, but also to create supplies in the warehouse, which we have over 500 thousand tons stored”.
Coal production is one of the most difficult jobs in the Kosovo Energy Corporation, but thanks to the commitment of management and workers to any difficulties has managed to be overcome without major problems.
“The work is extremely difficult, both in the mines and in us. During the summer we have huge dust and great risk to the cobblement of coal. During winter, however, serious problems may arise because of heavy rainfall and frost. However, despite the hard work, thanks to the maximum commitment of the workers and support of the management staff, as well as the conditions KEK has created for us, we are managing these situations, as well as implementing production as planned”. The head of the production sector at the Coal Production Department, Arsim Krasniqi, has explained.
This division is in the process of supplying new equipment that will greatly increase the labor process, which will also affect the safe production of coal for all thermal power plants.
We have about 8 million tons of coal planned in 2019, but with the arrival of new equipment, we plan that this production or this coal extract will double that will reach 15 million tons of coal. With new investments in new drivers and other new equipment, not only will we have security in production in current thermal power plants, but we guarantee that we will have a secure and abundant supply for the new thermal power plant”. Coal mining began in 1922 with the underground method, and in 1958, as a surface mine in Meash and Bardh.
The South-West Sibovci fell in reserves discovered of 123.4 million tons guaranteeing coal production by 2027.
