The 55-year-old woman, whose name was not known, was climbing near Glencoe on Saturday evening when she and another person were struck by lightning.
Scotland police reported that both men were taken to Fort William's hospital through the helicopter, but the woman died because of injuries. The other person is in stable condition. The authorities have informed her relatives of her death.
Thunder - struck groups were used to locate health - care helicopters, and coastal guards were also engaged. The people who were climbing the mountain were on a mountain just five miles [5 km] from Ben Nevis, the highest peak in Great Britain.
Inspector Isla Campbell said: “We are grateful for the efforts and professional response of partner agencies in this tragic incident and we express our condolences to the family of the late woman”, writes the “The Guardian”.
