EU justice and home affairs ministers at a meeting in Luxembourg today have confirmed new rules that will allow travellers from a country subject to the visa regime to make faster and clearer procedures.
The changes include submitting visa requirements for a period of 6 months to 15 days before the trip, filling electronics and signing application forms, as well as gradual extension of the multi-accession visa validity period for regular travellers from one to five years.
The new regulation also increases the data processing tax, which will now reach 80 euros, and its amount will be revised every three years.
The EU Council states that the adopted regulation will improve co-operation with third countries regarding re-admission of illegal immigrants through a new mechanism.
Within the framework of this mechanism, the Commission will regularly assess co-operation with third countries in terms of re-admission.
If a country does not co-operate, the Commission will propose to the Council to decide on the implementation of restrictive measures related to the processing of requirements, but also on the amount of visa tariffs.
On the other hand, if the country co-operates in re-accession terms, the Commission may propose that the Council make a decision to reduce visa taxes, cutting the time needed to decide on visa requirements or increase the length of visas for multiple entrys.
