35 dead of bloody protest in Sudan

Sudanese protesters say at least 35 people were killed after security forces attacked the main protest camp in the capital, Khartoum, in the largest violence taking place in the country since the fall of President Omar al-Bashir Sudanese Professional Association(PS), which led protests across the country, which began in December, [...]

The Professional Sudanese Association(PS), which led the protests across the country, which began in December, said Monday's crackdown was a bloody “masacre”, Klan Kosova reports.

“We are holding the Acting Military Council (TMC) responsible for what happened this morning”, the SP said, referring to the military council that currently heads the country.

The leaders of democracy have called on people to participate in night marchs and block major roads as part of the “total civilian disobedience” for it to “parise public life” throughout the country.

A committee of doctors linked to protesters said at a Facebook post on Monday that the death toll, which included at least one child, had increased at least 35, adding that it was difficult to count the death toll in the complex military area at Khartoum.

The group said hundreds of people were injured, mainly by firearms, and that, according to witnesses, the troops of the deadly protesters were thrown into the Nile River, Al Jazeera reports.

The United Nations condemned the use of excessive force by security forces against protesters and called for an independent investigation into the killings.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said in a statement that he was “larified” from reports that security forces had opened fire inside a hospital in Khartoum.

“What is clear to us is that there has been excessive use of security forces against civilians, people have died, people have been hurt”, said UN spokesman Stephanie Dujaric.

Guterres urged Sudanese authorities to facilitate an independent investigation of deaths and ensure that the responsible receive the sentence.

He also renewed his call for negotiations to resume a peaceful transfer of power to a civilian-led authority.
Protests are taking place at the request of a faster transition of power to civilians after Omar al-Bashir's collapse.
