The International Tribunal for the Hamburg Law of the German Sea made that decision after the case was presented by Ukrainian authorities against Russian security forces.
Russia had kidnapped three ships near the Kerci Strait Bridge in November last year. This strait connects the continental part of Russia to the Crimean Peninsula.
The president of this tribunal, Jin Hyun Paik, said the judges have decided that Russia should immediately return three ships to Ukraine and release the sailors to return to Ukraine.
Russia's Foreign Ministry reacted to this decision, saying the United Nations Convention on the Sea Law cannot be implemented in the dispute over the Kerci Strait incident.
Ukraine has denied Russia's claims that these ships had entered Russian territorial waters illegally.
The European Union, NATO and other international organisations have called on Moscow to free the sailors and return the ships to Ukraine, writes “Free Europe”, broadcasting Express.
