Former Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga from Tirana said redefining the borders is a dangerous rhetoric.
During an event developed for “Security challenges in the Balkans and the role of foreign actors at the time of Euro-Atlantic transition”, Jahjaga said discussions on border correction is a very sensitive topic, meaning going back to the past.
Our region is exposed to a dangerous rhetoric about redefining borders. A subject that is extremely sensitive, and this discussion implies our return to the past marked with violent periods of suffering and divisions”, she stated.
Atifete Jahjaga also raised the concern of Russian influence in the region through her ally, Serbia.
“Russia, in a system of values opposed to those of the EU, continues to have great influence in the Balkans, especially through its ally in the region, Serbia. Russia continues to exert great influence in our region, especially in countries like Serbia using economic, political and cultural means. Even through the promotion of nationalist dimensions. Their goal is known, reducing the EU and NATO in the Balkans as the force for promoting democratic values”, she said. /oraenes/
