US State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus, a written statement, said “The US is closely following regime operations in northwest Syria, including signs that the regime has used new chemical weapons”.
Unfortunately, we continue to see signs that the Assad regime could resume the use of chemical weapons, including a chlorine gas attack in northwest Syria on May 19th, 2019. We continue to collect information about this event, but if the Assad regime uses chemical weapons, we repeat our warning that the US and its allies will respond quickly and appropriately”, Ortagus said.
