The battle for Libya's capital, Tripoli, has cleared on Saturday, until military attacks in the city by Libyan eastern military commander Khalifa Haftar led to the death of 21 people and the wounding of 90 others, while international calls for calm are being ignored.
As the fighting approaches the capital, the UN called for temporary ceasefires to allow the wounded to be evacuated. A few hours later, Periscopi translates, the United States announced the withdrawal of a troop piece from that country, the cause of deterioration “of security conditions on the ground”. India also withdrew peacekeeping troops, saying Libya suddenly deteriorated.
The international airport south of downtown Tripoli was the scene of fierce fighting after Haftari claimed to have taken over an area supported by the US government.
