The Ukrainian people have chosen comedian Volodimir Zelensky for their representatives.
The comedian's candidacy, Zelensky for president, has not been well received by experts in Ukraine. Most of them have reacted negatively when Zelensky became serious and submitted his candidacy, writes Insander.
There are three reasons why the comedian Volodimir Zelensky should not come to the helm of Ukraine, Ukrainian experts have said.
Zelensky has no political experience. He never held any public mail. His top competitors, incumbent President Porosenko and former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko have had position as party chairman and executive post. While Zelenskiy has nothing to do with the international level.
Given all these problems, Zelenskiy's choice is viewed as an experiment for Ukraine, experts have praised.
Who is 41-year-old comedian Volodimir Zelenskiy?
Volodimir Zelenskiy is a satirical political comedy, where his television show “Vecerny kvartal” (Block of the Evening Meal) has great visibility in Ukraine. Politicians are often invited to his shows. Among them, Zelenskiy was even a guest of his own against Poroshenko
Ukrainian Comedian became famous with his role as Ukraine's president at a television show in 2015 called “People's servant”
Zelensky, a native of Kiev by Jewish parents, had long lived in Mongolia in the city of Erdeena, while studying at Kiev National Economics University at the Department of Uludic, but he has never mastered his legal profession.
His career in the field of acting had begun at the age of 17. Zelensky had been part of many comedy contests and comic performances. In addition to comic shows, it has been part of many films. And now he runs his film production “Cvartal 95”.
But how did Zelensky get into politics?
Political party “People's servant” was created in March 2018 by people of the television production company “Cvartal 95”, where television series also bore the same name.
In an interview in March 2019 for Der Spiegel, Zelensky had said he is entering politics to restore people's trust in politicians and that he wanted “to bring professional and good people to power” and that he would really want to change the political structure in Ukraine.
Six months before Zelensky announced his candidacy for the Ukrainian presidency elections on December 31st, 2018, Zelensky was currently leading the polls.
During his campaign he traveled with his team “Cvartal 95”. His engagement during the media campaign was minimal. He talked to his electorate through his YouTube channel. He had been criticised for running away to journalists, but Zelenky had declared that he felt closer to himself in this way of communication.
So Zelensky had won in the first round of presidential elections with more than 30% of the vote, almost double Porosenko's.
The incumbent, who has been in power since 2014, described the result as a “severe lesson”. Poroshenko, 53, a billionaire who has made wealth mainly through businesses, has been in politics for two decades.
