He had been criticised for running away to journalists, but Zelenky had declared that he felt closer to himself in this way of communication.

So Zelensky had won in the first round of presidential elections with more than 30% of the vote, almost double Porosenko's.

The incumbent, who has been in power since 2014, described the result as a “severe lesson”. Poroshenko, 53, a billionaire who has made wealth mainly through businesses, has been in politics for two decades.
