Wessel says Kosovo has already met all conditions, but considers that elections in the European Parliament are obstacles to visa liberalisation for Kosovars.

The prime minister called for citizens' understanding of the processes, which should be passed on to visa liberalisation for the Schengen area.

We expect the European Union to definitely give the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, like all other citizens, the right they deserve. The fact is that Kosovo, now fortunately, even the EU acknowledges, that technically has fulfilled all criteria”.

“It is not good for Kosovo to be part of a blockade due to elections which are in the EU. We expect this to happen very soon from the EU. But to be correct, I'm talking about the position I represent, the citizens of Kosovo, the citizens of my country, and then the other side, here should be the understanding of our citizens, said Wessel.

The head of the Assembly said Kosovars are European citizens and that the criteria for moving freely to European countries have met more than all other countries.

He is convinced that the EU will have a decision for free movement for Kosovo citizens.

“The EU is going through several phases which are not normal throughout all of its existence. As it may be, they have to do so, it's in their interest even in the interest of the EU's credibility and future for those values that promote them... and we are European citizens, we have fulfilled all criteria more than any other country we are expecting the EU at the most convenient moment to make that decision. I'm sure I'll get”.

The European “Burocracy is changing radically, but liberalisation for Kosovo citizens needs to happen. I'm pretty sure there's forces within the EU that think strategically and humanely, better than the forces that are structural”.

On Thursday the Committee for Civil Freedoms, Justice, and Home Affairs LIBE, in the European Parliament, has voted in favour of visa liberalisation for Kosovo citizens. / EO/
