Parliament voted by 118 votes for and 60 against prison sentences for the act, albinfo.ch writes.
It remains the proposal to be approved by the Council of States to become officially law. National MP Matthias Reinhardt, presenting the proposal, “Tatter” wrote: “Parliament accepts my parliamentary initiative against homophobic and transfobis! Great Success for Human Rights! Final answer in December to the Council of States”.
Reinhardt said the decision of the Swiss Parliament is great news because it sends a very powerful message: Homophobic is not an opinion, but it is a violation of the law. He added that working in this law, he learned that Swiss law has not condemned hatred of LGBT persons.
