The number of cases, criminal acts, serious thefts, arrests and traffic accidents during 2018 in Kosovo has declined, while there has been an increase in the number of killings and armed robberies.
Thus has it revealed, Kosovo Police General Director Rashit Qalaj during his first report to the Commission for Internal Affairs, Security and Supervision of the Kosovo Security Force on this institution's report of work for 2018. And in the case of “Drenitas”, where a girl has been sexually abused, Qalaj indicated that more are being investigated than the individual who has committed this crime.
The police chief during this report has talked about many other issues dealing with the institution he is running, launching reforms and restructuring that are being done at all Kosovo Police stations and scandals that have occurred in the police and achieving targets in preventing corruption, organised crime and terrorism. While, he asked the government to pass the pension law as soon as possible so that some police officials will go to early retirement and the average age of police is smaller.
MP from the Vetevendosje Movement ranks Jedal Severla became more interested in police officers who have received disability pension benefits, while also asking for information on how one person could, referring to the police's murder in Suhareka to be decorated by police and at the same time be in disciplinary measures by the IPK. Speaking of the incidents of police officials in Drenas and Suhareka, where a person was killed by police official, Qalaj said that within the police institution there will be an entity that will step up discipline and that the Drenas case is still under investigation, after allegedly having other people involved.
For the police suspected of killing in Suhareka, he said there were several measures from the IPK for him, while in the case of gratitude he received, he said this happened because of a case where he saved a man's life.
LDK MP Ismet Beqiri said the police institution has so far been sorry, but according to him, over the past two years there has been a rise in the quality of work.
The MP, defended the police and demanded that the latter have health insurance, according to him, it is absurd that this institution does not yet have that. MP The PDK, Fatmir Xhelili, was most interested in identifying criminal groups that are robbing banks.
According to him, it takes greater commitment for citizens to feel secure and not to fall from plunder. To close the chaos in the north, Qalaj said it has been chance Friday's action, with the holding of the plenary hearing, as he says has been scheduled about three months earlier.
The other MP from VV ranks, Rexhep Selimi, insists more on the reforms taking place in the Kosovo Police and the promotion process. While director Qalaj announced that on April 5th, the expected officers will be promoted to police officials, he also spoke about stealing testimony at the police facility, where he said they are on the verge of final investigations.
PSD MP Aida Drguti had a request to director Qalaj to advance as soon as possible access to the traffic fines system, which according to her is often not involving the system and therefore citizens from different regions are having to pay. The request was supported, and Director Qalaj, who, according to him, is expected to be adjusted. For the suspension of the police who have leaked information on the son of the AKI director, Shpend Maxun for his police ban, he said this suspension has resulted from access to classified information rather than media content. As for other agenda points, where it was and the review of the report with recommendations for monitoring implementation for the Kosovo Police Inspectorate left the agenda, and it was decided next week that the commission should convene on the issue.
