No budget for elections this year

The appointment of members of the Central Election Commission (KQZ) on the part of Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has prompted numerous reactions from political parties. In the CEC, no coalition member PAN has not been decreed. So has PSD and AKR. Representatives of these parties have given signs that this coalition can go [...]
Representatives of these parties have given signs that this coalition can go into division and, as a consequence, have new elections in the country.
Central Election Commission Chairman Valdete Daka has said the CEC is not prepared for elections this year.
She says that in the event of elections, additional budgets from the government should be required.
For us as the CEC this year is an unelection year and of course we haven't planned a budget for this year, nor have we asked, if elections occur, of course, that the CEC requires additional budget” from the Government, Daka said.
Daka said there are two other members who are not appointed. She said it's up to the president to appoint them, but important according to it is that the CEC is currently functional.
She said it is for changing some of the technical issues in the election voting process, such as the conditional vote, which was said to be unnecessary, but it can only be adjusted to electoral reform.
“Legal changes can only be made with electoral reform and then when the Assembly approves those changes, there are some technical issues that I was willing to change to the law on elections, but of course if we don't have electoral reform those changes can't happen”, she said.
Daka said she expects electoral reform, but that it is relevant institutions that decide. She said there are positive signs on this issue.
I know there are some moves in that direction, but it always remains to relevant institutions, primarily to the Kosovo Assembly to decide whether we will have reform or not, Daka said.
She said that during the CEC's impasse due to the non-appointed members of this institution there has been no decision-making, but whether they have been stuck in municipal assemblies is not informed.

The appointment of new members came days after the US Embassy's response to Kosovo ( The US, which has called on Kosovo President Hashim Thaci to make the appointment of representatives of the Central Election Commission (KQZ). / EO/
