Bars smuggled through Kosovo drugs

Officials in Kosovo Customs say drugs like products can be easily smuggled because their amount may be small, but very high value, which also drives smugglers to take advantage of these illegal acts.

Florina Berisha, chairman of the Association of Pharmacists, told Free Europe Radio that the Kosovar Agency for Medical Products (AKPM) should facilitate the procedures of drug registration in order to eliminate smuggling phenomenon, also considering the importance drugs have to people's health.

We as the pharmaceutical association condemn smuggling because it comes from different ways. According to information we have, there's a drop in smuggling, but there's always illegal access to them. We are willing to cooperate with relevant institutions to stop smuggling”.

“We call on AKPM to facilitate import procedures so that there is no shortage of drugs in the market and therefore smuggling. Most drugs come from the EU and the United States. Mostly drug smuggling is for those products that are missing on the market, but also products that have a change in the countries of the region”, she said. /rel/
