The grand finale” between Kosovo and Serbia gathered all political, institutional leaders in Pristina on Wednesday.
Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj was absent there, while the president and political party leaders expressed their positions about dialogue with Serbia for a final agreement, which they think should result in Kosovo's recognition from Serbia. The discussion took place under the table organised by the Research Institute for European Affairs and Development, with the subject “People's voice about the Great Fair between Kosovo and Serbia”.
Kosovo President Hashim Thaci said that if the final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia is not reached this year, the entire region could be destabilised.
In his speech, Thaci said the exchange of territories is shopping and nobody should let something like that happen.
But according to him, the legitimate rights of Albanians in the Valley should be respected.
“If we do not make legally binding agreements this year between Kosovo and Serbia, we will enter a dangerous area of these reports that could destabilise the entire region”, he said.
On the other hand, Thaci said he should not allow the possibility of organising an international conference.
At the last meeting that we have had with partner coalition leaders, I have proposed a draft resolution that will propose to Kosovo's Parliament, that the Kosovo Assembly issue issue a very short but clear resolution, that the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo supports the right of the citizens of Presevo, Medvedja and Bujanoc, in association with the territory of the Republic of Kosovo, points... We should be very careful with local alliances because Albanians have never won from local alliances, the Kosovo alliance, and Albanians is NATO, special partnership with the US, and the future EU perspective. We should not allow two things to be discussed: local alliances and the possibility of organising an international conference meaning Russia's incorporomination on the table”, Thaci said. 23,9
While Vetevendosje Movement Chairman Albin Kurti stressed the necessity of hiring the political spectrum in Kosovo in addition to demands on Serbia. According to him, a consensus can be reached on this issue.
Speaking of the idea of mending the border between Kosovo and Serbia, Kurti said no one has a right to Kosovo's land.
The citizens' stance has also been given in the massive, magnificent September 29th protest of last year and could be given even more power in the upcoming protests. I'm finishing my initial word by stressing that even the martyrs in the graves are standing up, they have no right to forgive Kosovo land, let alone live people”, he said.
Kurti said Serbia's goal is known, which according to him is an old project with non-new acts.
“We know what Serbia wants, it says openly and clearly. Demitation, definition with Albanians -- virtually partitioning Kosovo -- to then continue deregulation with Croatia for the division of Bosnia. The project is old, which the deedaries are neither new nor new, Kurti said.
And according to Lutfi Haziri from the Democratic League of Kosovo, the problem with Serbia is territorial.
Haziri said Kosovo should not give up territory, but should neither ignore the rights of Albanians in the Valley.
“Personally like Lutfi Haziri, I think the problem with Serbia is territorial and must be resolved in this principle. Not to give Serbia, never to the EU to ask me, why offer me the EU's perspective, if someone has given me whatever it wants. I am taking the Presevo, Medvedja, Bujanocin, the principle of municipal borders, the principle of property and the cadastral principle. The three conditions under clear definition belong to most of the population living there, and the majority of landowners also have Albanians, even in the cadastral principle most of the settlements are owned by Albanians, and in the principle of borders most Albanians do it”, he said.
Part of the table was Social Democrat Initiative Chairman Fatmir Limaj, who is co-chairman of the state delegation for talks with Serbia.
He stressed that dialogue should have only one title, which according to him should be the dialogue for the recognition of Kosovo.
This one here today that we want to go into should have the title, must be the dialogue for the recognition of Kosovo, there we go with full clarity, there we must go for recognition, recognition of Kosovo from Serbia. Unless Serbia is willing to sit down to recognise Kosovo, we expect it when they are ready. It was seen in 2011-2017 that normalisation between Kosovo and Serbia is hard to achieve without mutual recognition, without respect for each other. In fact, the name of normalisation of relations in many cases has marred normalised relations perhaps 2008-2010, only damaged in many areas”, Limaj said.
The poll, which was released today by “RIDEA” shows that the Serbian and Albanian population speak with different voices about the red lines for dialogue with Serbia, but that share the same stance as the continuation of dialogue./G. Kadri
