The letters of love, recently discovered, sent by Sultan Solomon, the Royal Sultan of the Enterem, have shed light on the most famous love story of this era.
The letters were issued from the presidential archives, while archives have described them as one of the best examples of poetry and prose of the Ottoman period, written in times when Sulejman was on the battlefield, broadcast at least.
Sulejmani is considered by many historians as the most successful Ottoman Sultan.
His rule from 1520 to 1566 included bold military campaigns that expanded empire and development in the fields of law, literature, art and architecture.
Yet, for romantics, he is known for his love story with his wife, Hyhem.
I am lost in this universe created by our Lord. I've lived my best years under your protection, like a pearl in your jewel box”, the Sultan wrote in.
I find peace only with you. Words and ink are insufficient to confess my happiness and joy when I'm near you”, writes Enterem.
“The memories of the days we spent together, the moments we shared, fill the heart of your servant girl”, she continues.
I'm comfortable with these memories of your absence. I'm low when you're away. No one can ease my pain”, she wrote in 1526.
In one of her letters, the sultan sent her wet clothes with tears.
My life, my lord, my beloved Sultan, my only prayer to God is to see your bright face again. There are no more divisions from now”
I want from my God that my Sultan, my beloved man, always to be happy in the world and forever”
“My sultan... wiped out my tears and made me happy.
