Five people indicted after applying for recognition of the status of sex violence victim in recent war

In an anniversary of the initial acceptance of applications for recognition and verification of the status of victims of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo, The QKRT has said delays and expectations in the application review have caused reactions and dissatisfaction with applicants.

“The QKMT praises the Commission's work in handling the requirements, but expresses concern over the length of their treatment. There are cases that are waiting for more than ten months to review the app. Delays and expectations in the application review have triggered reactions and discontent of applicants. In particular, these expectations are discouraging for survivors who are still in a dilemma to apply or who do not have the family's support for this” process, said a response of the KRCT.

It became known yesterday that for a year, about 900 requirements for recognition of status have been submitted, of which around 200 people have been recognised the status “victitis of sexual violence during the war”, while about 100 requests have been rejected.

QKRT says it itself has submitted to Commission 214 requests, out of which 41 applicants have been recognised status, one has been refused, one is in the process of reconsidering and others are awaiting response. It becomes known that the five cases that have been denied the request for recognition of the static, The KRC has prepared the indictments for the court.

“In the course of contributing to the process of recognising the status of victims of sexual violence, in recent months the KRC has initiated the establishment of judicial procedures for dealing with the parties' indictments that have been refused recognition of status by the Commission. The KRC has held meetings with the head of the Constitutional Court in Pristina, as well as with the Kosovo Judiciary Council's chairman and has addressed the issues of handling these cases near court”, the report said.

Furthermore, the CRC has said that the organisation of the Commission and Kosovo's model are internationally assessed as among the best in the area of reparation for victims of sexual violence in conflicts.
