A study has included 680 people, some of whom did not smoke, some were former cooks and smokers.
They have answered questions about their immediate diet and were then subjected to sperm measurements, the test by which lung function is measured on the basis of breathing.
They repeated the test 10 years later. Researchers have come to the conclusion that the more they ate apples, bananas and tomatoes from the former cooks, the less damage they had to their lungs during this period.
This is very important because aging and smoking represent the greatest cause of lung function. This food is good because it contains many antioxidants that help reduce respiratory organ inflammation and potentially improve lung health.
The second group of antioxidants called flavonoids is also responsible for this. These components are found in most trees and vegetables and make breathing easier.
This explains why apples and bananas are related to reducing lung - functioning risks.
These foods help to restore damaged tissue that has occurred because of smoking. On the other hand, tomatoes because of the high amount of lycopene reduce the risk of developing lung cancer by 52 percent.
