Authorities in Mogadishu say at least 80 people have been killed and dozens more have been injured following the powerful explosion of a bomb car at a crossroads in the southwestern Somalia capital.
Officials say the number of victims will likely increase. Some reports speak of about 90 deaths.
Witnesses say the explosion occurred at a posttole in the area known as the connecting point between Mogadishu capital and the town of Afgoye.
According to preliminary reports, the explosive-filled truck targeted a tax office at the intersection where vehicles stop to pay street fees.
A witness to the event told the American Voice service in Somali that he had seen blood and parts of the bodies of people scattered everywhere.
So far no one has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, the al-Shabab terrorist group, which has links to al-Qaeda, has undertaken similar attacks in the past.
