Robert Gramling, a professor at Rochester University in New York and a leading researcher in this clinical study, stated that a healthy lifestyle reduces the risk of illness, even for women with this family disease (a genetic factor).
So far, it was considered that nothing could be done to prevent this disease from taking place among women with “family partners”.
Researchers analyzed data from 85,644 women after menopausis. They participated in a clinical study organised by the National Institute of Health (SHBA).
They compared women with family history with women who had family history when it came to breast cancer. Under the family weight of the disease, it was considered that mother or sister had contracted breast cancer after age 45.
Surprisingly, both groups of women, if they pursued a healthy lifestyle, had a reduction of about 25%.
A healthy way of life is defined as regular training for 20 minutes, at least five times a week, less than 7 alcoholic beverages per week (an alcoholic drink means a small bottle of beer or a glass of wine) and body weight with a body index in the range of 18.5-24.9.
This study does not consider women who had previously suffered breast cancer or those affected by breast cancer before age 45.
Finally, a healthy life - style with a healthy diet reduced the risk of illness by 25%.
