Poland's Prime Minister, Matthews Morawetsky, said Russia's President Vladimir Putin is lying about World War II to draw attention to his country's failures.
He said this in response to Putin's statement blaming Poland for the outbreak of World War II, prompting the Russian ambassador to Poland to be interviewed by the Polish Foreign Ministry on Friday to receive an official protest note.
President Putin has lied about Poland in many cases and does it deliberately. That usually happens when Moscow authorities feel international pressure for their movements. And this pressure is not on the historical scene, but on the geopolitical scene,” said Morawetsky.
As examples of Russia's failure, Morawetsky cited the suspension of Russian doping athletes, the recent extension of EU sanctions and US sanctions for the construction of North Stream.
“I consider President Putin's words as an attempt to cover these problems,” said Morawetsky.
