EU threatens Poland except for judiciary cause

Poland could leave the EU because of a plan by ruling nationalists to allow judges to be fired if they question the legitimacy of government judicial reforms. Poland's Supreme Court says these plans are contrary to European laws and strengthen pre-existing tensions between Brussels [...]
Poland's Supreme Court says these plans are contrary to European laws and strengthen pre-existing tensions between Brussels and the Law and Justice of the ruling Polish Party (PIS).
“Contraditions between the Polish and European legislation will likely lead to EU institutions that interfere with violating treaties within the Union and in the long term plan that would lead to Poland's departure from the EU,”, the Supreme Court said.
The statement also reportedly that the proposed law had apparently been drafted to allow President Andreze Dudy, an ally of the PiS, to appoint a new president of the Supreme Court before the presidential elections in May of next year.
The EU has accused the PIS of politicising the judiciary since the party came to power in 2015.
The party, however, argues that reforms are needed to make the justice system more efficient.
Under the bill, which in the assembly procedure, judges cannot decide that their colleagues proposed by a panel appointed by the ruling party are not independent.
The EU announced yesterday it would investigate whether the bill violates the independence of the judiciary in Poland.
