Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has named the country's first prime minister in more than 40 years, Manuel Morro Cruz.
The prime minister's post was rejected in 1976 by then revolutionary leader Fidel Castro.
It was restored under the rules of a new constitution for the Communist-run island adopted earlier this year.
Morro, 56, will take on some of the responsibilities currently taking on the president.
The government's “Kreu will be the right administrative hand of republic's president”, said the online newspaper run by the state of Cubabate.
However, critics say any such change is purely cosmetic, as the Cuban Communist Party and the military remain the only decision-making institutions in Cuba.
