US Secretary of State Pompeo has conveyed a message to Albanians in these tragic days the country is experiencing.
Pompeo writes that on the day of Albania's independence, thoughts and prayers go for lives lost during the country's earthquake.
Full Declaration:
As Albania solemnly commemorates its Independence Day, we convey our deepest condolences to those who lost their lives in this week's earthquake. Today, our prayers go to their families as well as to wounded people. In the name of the American people, we wish you a quick recovery of all affected. Even now, as in other difficult times, the United States stands by our friends in Albania.
Since the fall of communism thirty years ago, Albania and the United States have built an increasingly strong partnership. The United States strongly supports Albania's path towards European integration and commends Albania's determination to achieve that goal. We welcome Albania's government's efforts to implement necessary reforms, including reforms aimed at strengthening an independent justice system.
We deeply appreciate Albania's positive contributions to NATO coalition, and welcome Albania's leadership as O president The SEU for 2020. Friendship between the United States and Albania stands as a stable pillar of peace and stability, and we welcome even more years of friendship and co-operation
