KEK aims to turn former ash storage into green oasis

This area, which for 50 years served as a ash depot and the new wasteland, is being cultivated by the Kosovo Energy Corporation. In the area of 3.5 acres [3,5 ha], the planting process of 3,500 seedlings is complete, as it is designed to plant over 80,000 seedlings in over 80 acres. Three municipalities [...] are expected to benefit from this project.
In the area of 3.5 acres [3,5 ha], the planting process of 3,500 seedlings is complete, as it is designed to plant over 80,000 seedlings in over 80 acres.
Three municipalities with major pollution problems are expected to benefit from this project.
The “since the 1960s in this area of 250 hectares has been historically cast off ashes, as well as soil, sweat, and based on all measurements and studies that were about 80% of pollution starting in Pristina, Fushe Kosova and Obiliki have been made from here. Now this area has stabilised, the will has been eliminated and the final new phase of biological cultivation has begun. First we started between this area that is between Fushe Kosovo and Obilic. The initial phase, which is under way, planting 3,500 seedlings, which is finally covering an area of 3.5 hectares, while this is just the initial phase of the” project, said Edmond Nullesh, executive director of Corporation Services.
He has made it known that they have started discussions with the World Bank on a major project to complete re-cultivate the entire area, which will then be available for community exploitation.
And we are now in the cleaning phase of the areas around KEK, which are on the border with residents. On this line, about 40 hectares has become the cleaning of all the bushes and is preparing the terrain where there has been a constant commitment of around 20 workers, 10 heavy machinery for four and a half months, and this is over.
Now we're in the contracting phase, first the design, but also the design of a green generation, where these 40 acres will roughly be surrounded by a green generation to create a natural border so that residents will not be infected and pollution will be minimal, as if west of”, Nullesh said.
The Kosovo Energy Corporation from 2015, when it completed major investments that seized the value of around 60m euros, began the process of major investments in reducing pollution.
One of the largest projects, financed by the EU, is the change of electrofils to the Kosova B thermal power plant.
