Asylum seekers, from Iraq, Palestine, Somalia and Syria, spent about a year sleeping in mattresses, on airport floor “Sheremetyevo” between 2015 and 2017.
The Strasbourg-based court stressed that the four had been deprived of freedom for a long period, without legal grounds, and the process of their asylum demands had been too slow.
Their living conditions were humiliating treatment, having to sleep on the floor in an area filled with people and noisy, without showers, cooking facilities, or wild activities.
The ECHR ordered Russia to pay 20,000 euros in compensation each of the Iraqi and Syrian asylum seekers -- 150,000 euros for the Palestinian and 26,000 euros for that from Somalia. / A OVR
