Today in Macedonia Albanians mark November 22nd, the Albanian Alphabet Day, which was unified 107 years ago at the Monastery Congress.
This holiday has been warned to be traditional and to be echoed throughout the Albanian trains.
The monastery congress took place between 14-22 November 1908. 50 delegates from 26 different cities, clubs and associations participated. In this convention, the decision was adopted to accept the Latin alphabet with several changes of letters adapting it to Albanian.
In Manastir, at the time, Albanian intellectuals from all Albanian lands have participated, as the city has been the centre of the consoles and was safer for the prosperity of this important national process.
Congress Speaker Mithat Frasher was elected, while vice-chairmen were Luigj Gurakuqi and George Kyriaz, while his sister Parashivi Kyrizi was the only woman in this Congress.
According to the number and importance of participants, the Monastery Congress has been the most important event of the Albanian people in the early 20th century, where as a result of this work on 28th Albania's independence was declared November 1912.
For the Albanians of Macedonia this day is a holiday and not working, while the Museum of Eagle Language Alphabets operates in Manastair, in which there are about 56 photos of participants and 230 digital-shaped documents and on paper.
