After two days of fighting between Israel and the militants at the Gaza Strip, a ceasefire agreement has been entered into force, UN sources and Palestinian Islamic Jihad militants have announced.
Violence began after Israel killed the commander of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza, (the territory controlled by Hamas militants), said 32 people have been killed in Israeli attacks, while more than 60 others have been injured.
A spokesman for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad confirmed to the BBC that the ceasefire entered into force at 5:30 in the morning, according to local time.
The UN's envoy for peace in the Middle East, Nickolay Mladenov, said both the UN and Egypt have worked hard to prevent escalation in and around Gaza, which would lead to war”, the periscoscope follows.
Israel, however, did not confirm the ceasefire.
