The Kosovo Central Bank (BQK) has held a news conference today, where discussion topics have been the tariffs imposed by insurance companies.
The governor of this bank, Fehmi Mehmeti, has said the current prices for auto insurance have remained unchanged since 2001; while circumstances have changed.
The executive “Bord has made a decision and in order to be transparent, the very day of the decision we have issued a communiqué showing the reasons for this decision. The CEC is a supervisorial regulator and is also bound to make tariff arrangements for insurance companies”.
To that end, the BQK, acting in line with legislation in force and respecting recommendations made by the International Monetary Fund, has decided to revis current prices”.

If we look at the complaints we accept every day, it's obvious that the polyistaires have problems. However, this is not the only measure we've taken. It's time for every security company to understand that when it comes to law enforcement, the BQK has zero-8x1> tolerance.
“Disrespecting the contract between policykeepers and customers is a criminal offence. From 2001 until now, many dynamic developments have taken place that have impacted the Kosovo economy”.
The first “has been the increase in the number of damages specifically in the first category vehicles. The demands have been continuous on the part of insurance companies. Initially, there have been demands that prices rise by 36 per cent. But we have assessed the situation and rejected this request”.
“We've taken the reference basis of inflation from 2002 to 2019. In other matters, one should mention a fact that is of public interest”.
The “in 2001 when this law was passed was not included even accidents made in Albania. As insurance companies continue to cover damage caused there”.
We remember that today it has sent media communiqués and the Kosovo Insurance Association, stressing that insurance for 18 years paid 400m euros in damages and suffered 23.5m euros in losses for six years.
