Venice Commission: Meta violated the Constitution and exceeded competencies

The Venice Commission reaffirmed today that President Ilir Meta violated the Constitution when he annulled the elections and imposed their postponement without such competence in the Constitutions and in the law.
The Venice Commission approved the final report regarding the opinion demanded by the parliamentary investigative commission in Albania's Parliamentary Assembly for the violations of President Ilir Meta today.
According to the Venice Commission, the annulment of the elections and further violated the citizens' right to choose.
“The electoral zone of political subjects, even if they represent a large portion of voters, cannot stop holding fair elections. Otherwise, these parties would gain the opportunity/avantazy/leva to prevent any election process, as quoted in paragraph 98”, the final report said.
Similarly, the Venice Commission confirmed that the president exceeded his constitutional competence, as a start cancelling local elections, and further postpones them.
According to the Venice Commission, “is the competence of the Parliament and further the Constitutional Court to determine whether this violation is grave or not”.
