Sadako Ogata, a Japanese academic and diplomat who became the first woman to be appointed United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, has died at the age of 92.
It has monitored large-scale operations in areas including Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and areas of Africa.
Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has reacted to her death.
He said through Facebook that Ogata was the voice that everyone told us the world would not close its eyes to the suffering of Kosovo.
Sorry I got news of Sadako Ogata's death. It was the voice that all of us showed that the world will not close its eyes to the suffering of Kosovo. For her unabated contribution, in 2017, I awarded the decoration “Mother Teresa”, wrote Thaci on Facebook. /Periscopi/
