PEPS ask the European Commission and the entire European family not to bring down the hopes of the two countries.

The next “week, EU member states will face a strategic election in terms of opening membership negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia. Before these fundamental decisions, president of PEPE, Joseph Daul, expressed support for the launch of talks on both countries“, said on paper.

“Enlargement Policy”, continues the document, “has been one of the most successful tools in efforts to bring peace and stability to our continent. The decision to be made by member states will affect not only the stability, security and prosperity of the Western Balkans but also the entire continent as a whole.

It's time to send a powerful message and stick to our commitments in the region. Northern Macedonia and Albania have noted progress on the basis of demands made for the launch of this process. Although there is still much work to be done, the opening of negotiations remains the next natural step“, the paper says further.

“Citizens and especially young people in both countries deserve a European perspective, as it remains a source of motivation for these countries and the wider region, in order to continue reforms needed for implementation of the legal state, strengthening the judiciary, fighting corruption, improving neighbourly relations and guaranteeing the independence of the media“, the PEP letter is highlighted. /TCh/
