Three Indian civilians were injured, and several buildings and vehicles were destroyed due to fierce fighting in the Tanghdar region, which lies in the northern part of Kashmir. A senior police official said the armed conflict occurred during late hours Saturday.
Defence Ministry spokesman in India Colonel Rajesh Kalia said Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement in this region without being provoked by rival forces. Our “Socies strongly retaliated and caused serious damage and victims of enemy”, he said.
Tensions between the two countries have increased in recent months since India's decision to lift special autonomous status from the Kashmir region and send the military to this region on 5 August.
