Amy Godden, 21, reportedly admitted to the police that “she may have treated the child slightly or aggressively” while caring for the child Monday night.
Events occurred at the girl's home in Daytona Beach, Florida. Amy would then take the child to the hospital, informing her parents.
Initially she would lie about the fact that the child was injured after trying to remove it from its shell “without realizing that the arm was still trapped between” bars.
The 21-year-old then would give another version of the events and would claim the damage would happen after she heard a sound of a broken bottle coming from the kitchen. Godden said she went back to the garden and discovered the child lying in her rocking chair with the left arm “depending on one side”.
According to the girl, the arm seemed to have broken itself, but doctors said it would be almost impossible for the child to hurt himself in the way the babysitter described it.
The investigators then visited Godden's home and found that the rocking chair had no side poles that could cause a damage similar to what she had mentioned. At that moment the girl explained that as she tried to put “at ease, the baby's arm was accidentally trapped under her body, causing her fracture.
A subsequent report presented by South Dayton police said: “as she spoke to the suspect, her story changed several times, leading us to believe that she lied”. Godden has been charged with child abuse and has now been arrested unconditionally.
