The British plastic surgeons' association (BAAPS) has said it will vote to decide whether the procedure widely known as the Brazilian erection of the buttocks is sure to take place in the United Kingdom.
An expert panel will assess the latest tests and decide whether to support previous guidelines issued in 2018, which warned surgeons not to perform the operation due to high mortality rates.
If instructions are supported, procedures in the United Kingdom will be prohibited, although surgeons in theory may choose to ignore recommendation.
Concern about the procedure, which has increased in popularity over the past five years, follows a number of cases of serious illness and death.
According to an anonymous study of 2017 of 692 surgeons worldwide, 32 respondents reported deaths and 103 cases cited not fatalally in fat embolia.
