They're not Christians, but where they saw the state of the church of San Rocco in Popoli, they couldn't pretend nothing had happened.
Two Albanian bricklayers, displaced in Italy 30 years ago, have undertaken the internal renovation of the church, which was left in oblivion. The wet walls, the plaster that kept falling on the floor with believers forced to pray between dust and ruins... were a sight that convinced Luan Hallul and Albert Mushha to make this human decision.
Everything was destroyed. Ruined walls in every corner. I told Albert, “to do something we have to do something”. We went to our suppliers to buy products we use for our interior environments. When the lady who cares for the church arrived, she was very happy. She told us” God bless you, no one had ever done this for the church”, said Luan Hallul, writes Albanian.
Though they are Muslims from Shkodra, and do nothing to hide it, to Lion and Albert, the Lord is one.
We are God's children. It's not about being Catholic, Orthodox or Muslim. We believe in God and it is he who guides us to what we do”, Albert said.
Thanks don't end for two schoolgirls. God's “The hand of God has acted on these good people, who our religious community will never stop thanking”, said church caretaker Liliana Cavalier.
