In two Twitter posts, Trump has said he does not even want to provoke Kurds to Turkey.
American forces have fought alongside Kurdish militia in northern Syria against militants of the extremist group, Islamic State I SIS.
But Turkey considers members of the Kurdish People Protection Units (YPG) as terrorists.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has declared angry support for this group and has promised to destroy it.
Trump's comments have come after the criticism the American president has accepted when he announced the withdrawal of American troops from Syria. The conflict in Syria started in 2011 until the United States was involved in 2015.
